The Work

Working in the Counter Terrorism and Special Investigations (CTSI) Command requires specialist training and extensive investigative experience to counter a range of complex crime types. Roles include:

Investigators

CTSI investigators collect, prepare and present information and evidence to support Counter Terrorism and Special Investigations matters. They also liaise with internal and external partners, and exploit available information, intelligence and/or evidence to help determine appropriate law-enforcement responses.

What we do

  • Prevent, disrupt and investigate terrorist activity against Australians and Australia's interests, both domestically and internationally
  • Collaborate with Australian law-enforcement and intelligence partners on counter-terrorism investigations
  • Mitigate the threat posed by Australians who commit or plan terrorist acts, provide support to terrorist groups or travel overseas to participate in training or to fight in conflict zones
  • Manage high-risk terrorist offenders as they approach their release from prison
  • Undertake high-level, complex and sensitive investigations to reduce or prevent harm to Australia’s national security or national interests.

How to join

 

How to join

There are standard steps to joining any investigative area in the AFP. 

  • Train as a police officer recruit 
  • Complete six months’ probation  
  • Successfully complete an on-the-job workbook (usually completed over a 12-month period) 
  • Continue to gain policing experience and apply for an investigative position when advertised.
