What we do

  • Contribute to the safety and security of individuals and interests identified as being at risk from acts of terrorism, violent protest and issue-motivated groups
  • Provide a high-visibility protection capability and counter terrorist first response at locations such as Parliament House, Kirribilli House and Australia’s nine designated airports
  • Provide world-class close protection to designated Australian and foreign dignitaries, internationally protected persons and visiting foreign dignitaries from within Australia and overseas
  • Providing a tactical and specialist protective response capability
  • Work in the National Operations State Service Centre (NOSSC) to act as the central entry point into the AFP for the Australian community, law enforcement and other Commonwealth and international partners

  • Gather critical intelligence and conduct threat assessments and risk analysis on individuals and groups within Australia and overseas.

How to join

How to join

  • Train as a recruit (police officer or protective service officer)
  • Successfully complete six months’ probation
  • Upon completion of your recruit course, you will start work in SPC straight away. Police officers will need to successfully complete an on-the-job workbook (usually completed over a 12-month period).

To work towards specialist positions (e.g., close personal protection officer, tactical response officer, canine handler), you will then need to continue to gain experience and apply for a specialist position when advertised.
