The Work

Working in the Transnational Operations (TNO) Command requires specialist training and extensive investigative experience to counter a range of complex crime types and protect Australians and Australian interests. Roles include: 

Investigators

TNO investigators collect, prepare and present information and evidence to support TNO operations. They also work closely with internal and external partners to deploy cutting-edge capabilities and intelligence to disrupt high-value targets and dismantle organised crime groups both domestically and offshore. 

What we do

  • Cooperate with key domestic and international partners to combat transnational serious and organised crime 
  • Target global transnational serious and organised crime threats seeking to harm Australians 
  • Disrupt high-value targets and dismantle organised crime groups domestically and offshore
  • Utilise cutting-edge capabilities, deployed in a dynamic and evolving criminal landscape to go after the highest levels of organised crime and serious criminals.

How to join

 

How to join

There are standard steps to joining any investigative area in the AFP. 

  • Train as a police officer recruit 
  • Complete six months’ probation  
  • Successfully complete an on-the-job workbook (usually completed over a 12-month period) 
  • Continue to gain policing experience and apply for an investigative position when advertised.
