Child Protection quote

I was invited out of retirement to help on the COVID-19 hotline and provide admin support to the COVID team within Organisational Health. With over 16,200 calls and emails thus far to the COVID Hotline and the subsequent documentation generated, it has been a very busy time. Thanks to the support of the Organisational Health and AFP Reserve teams, reintegration has been very smooth.

AFP Reserve

About the AFP Reserve

The AFP Reserve uses the skills, qualifications and experience of former Australian Federal Police officers and specialist and support staff to fill urgent, short-term and other operational gaps in the AFP workforce.

Enhancing capacity

The AFP Reserve provides crucial surge capacity to support and/or relieve permanent AFP employees, allowing them to focus on higher priority or more complex operations and investigations.

Who is the AFP Reserve for?

The AFP Reserve gives recently retired former employees the opportunity to re-engage with our efforts to protect Australians and Australia's interests from serious criminal threats.

It is also perfectly suited to helping employees who will soon be leaving the AFP adjust from working full-time.

All AFP Reserve applicants must:

  • Be of good character
  • Meet the health requirements for duties
  • Have had at least three years’ previous employment within the AFP
  • Have retired or resigned from the AFP with good standing within the past 10 years
  • Have, or be able to obtain, NV1 security clearance.

Please note: The AFP Reserve does not provide a gateway to return to permanent employment with the AFP. Reservists are ineligible to apply for internally advertised positions. Reservists who wish to become permanent employees must apply for externally advertised opportunities.
