What is the role?

Pacific Command leads AFP’s engagement with Pacific Police partners with the primary focus to promote regional stability and to prevent and disrupt transnational crime threats. Pacific Command is responsible for delivering the Commissioner and Government’s strategic intent, with a significant focus on implementing the Pacific Policing Initiative (PPI) to strengthen partnerships and boost capabilities across the Pacific.

 

As a Team Member in Pacific Command the successful applicant will be responsible for liaison, administration, coordination and organisation in support of the Command and the broader organisation.

 

The Team Member will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of Pacific Command’s objectives through the provision of general administrative and coordination support to ensure efficient operation of the team and the AFP.

 

The suitable applicant will be able to apply general knowledge of AFP business operations and corporate processes while liaising with AFP internal stakeholders and its partners contributing to the AFP’s strategic priorities in the Pacific.

 

As a Team Member in the AFP you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

As a Team Member, you will provide administrative and coordination assistance to ensure the efficient operation of the Pacific Command in support of AFP priorities. This work may include, but may not be limited to, the following:

 

  • Provision of high-level administrative support and coordination: Managing calendars, scheduling meetings, handling correspondence, and maintaining accurate records and reports in line with policies.
  • Professional stakeholder engagement and customer service: Acting as a key point of contact, responding timely to enquiries, and building and nurturing strong relationships across teams and agencies.
  • Event and travel management: Coordinating and booking travel, meetings, and events, including logistics and secretariat duties – drafting agendas, minutes, meeting papers, and maintaining risk, action, issue and decision registers.
  • Process improvement and compliance: Identifying opportunities to streamline processes while ensuring adherence to AFP policies and procedures.
  • Project and financial administration: Supporting project coordination, tracking deliverables, processing invoices, and assisting with budget management.
  • Confidentiality and professionalism: Handling sensitive information discreetly, demonstrating resilience and professionalism in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and showing initiative to support and assist different teams during times of high-pressure and demand.

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Demonstrated experience providing high-level administrative and coordination support.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational and time management skills, and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to autonomously manage a high workload and be adaptable to change.

  • This position is at Band 4 Level. 
  • This role is located in Canberra and Brisbane. Applicants are expected to be based in Canberra or Brisbane or willing to relocate.
