What is the role?

 

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants to fill vacancies within the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Human Exploitation teams. The Human Exploitation Specialist Command within AFP’s Crime Command has the national lead for Child Protection, Human Trafficking and the AFP-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE).

 

The complexity, breadth and pace of AFP Human Exploitation will require you to anticipate and adapt to changing work priorities and be dynamic and flexible in your approach to day-to-day work. Your contribution will be meaningful, rewarding and deliver tangible outcomes to enhance and bolster law enforcement capabilities and operational efforts to counter online child exploitation and human trafficking.

 

As a Team Member, you will be contributing to the delivery of strategic initiatives, projects and maintaining stakeholder relationships that that supports the strategic objectives of AFP Human Exploitation Command.

 

As a member of the AFP, you are required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

Role Description and Responsibilities

Teams within AFP Human Exploitation include:

 

Partnerships and Outreach 
The Partnerships and Outreach team has responsibility for leading outreach initiatives, identifying and fostering beneficial partnerships between law enforcement and external stakeholders including non-government organisations, industry, and partner agencies to drive mutually beneficial outcomes to meet the strategic objectives of Human Exploitation. 

 

Strategy and Policy Coordination

The Strategy and Policy Coordination (SPC) team provides strategic direction and executive support to support and develop strategy, policy and governance for a range of functions across Human Exploitation (including the ACCCE), Child Protection Operations and Human Trafficking and Slavery.  The SPC team works with internal and external stakeholders to deliver strategic priorities and provide direction to counter child exploitation and human exploitation more broadly and promotes partnership and collaboration wherever possible.

 

Online Child Safety Team
The Online Child Safety Team takes a multi-faceted approach for the education and prevention of online child sexual exploitation. Team members contribute to developing initiatives and the management of education programs, including the ThinkUKnow online child safety program and the Playing IT Safe early years program.

 

Child Protection National Strategy Implementation
The Child Protection National Strategy Implementation Team is responsible for the implementation of a suite of measures under the National Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Child Sexual Abuse (2021-2030), a key recommendation from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. 

 

National Human Trafficking Coordination Team 
The National Human Trafficking Coordination Team (NHTC) manages the AFPs strategic and policy directive for Human Trafficking and is responsible for the AFPs Human Trafficking Look A Little Deeper (LALD) package, Human Trafficking investigations training, standards and practices, stakeholder engagement, statistics and reporting.  NHTC also provides domestic and international representation on Human Trafficking and assists the AFPs international capacity uplift in combatting these crimes.

 

What will you do?

Duties across these teams may include:

 

  • Assist in the development and delivery of evidence-based projects
  • Develop project plans, communication and stakeholder engagement strategies
  • Explore opportunities to raise awareness of issues and trends relating to child protection and human trafficking, the role of the AFP and operational outcomes
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain crime type subject matter expertise, including undertaking regular environmental scanning
  • Provide effective and efficient secretariat, coordination and administrative support
  • Event management and logistics support for multi-stakeholder events and meetings
  • Assist in the delivery of presentations and briefings to stakeholders
  • Contribute to high level executive briefings, Senate Estimates, Questions on Notice, talking points, parliamentary briefings, ministerial and media requests
  • Assist with policy and strategic advice and coordination of input into requests from internal and external stakeholders
  • Support the collation and analysis of statistical performance data and contribute to business and operational reporting requirements, including analysis and interpretation of data
  • Support the development of relevant governance relating to Human Exploitation Business Delivery including strategic planning and risk management
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of prevention and education initiatives

 

Child Protection is a high-risk psychological impact area. Prior to commencing in the area, and throughout their tenure, applicants will be required to undertake and satisfy specific psychological testing to work in the area.

Essential Requirements

 

  • You must be an Australian citizen at the time of application
  • Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one
  • Relevant qualifications or extensive experience in communications, social media, marketing, public relations, education, business or a related field.
  • Experience or knowledge in project management and the delivery of strategic initiatives.
  • Contemporary knowledge and experience in regards to crime prevention, child protection and online child safety.
  • Ability to complete psychological clearance pathways
