The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is looking for the brightest minds to protect Australians by outsmarting serious, complex, international and organised crime. In joining the AFP, you will be critical in protecting Australia and Australians from serious crime. As an inclusive organisation, the AFP provides an opportunity for all Australians to gain employment in the AFP fairly. We appreciate that everyone is unique and acknowledge that diversity in thought leads to greater transparency and improved consideration in our decision-making. To support our employees, we also provide flexible work arrangements.

We break new ground every day, and a career as a member of the AFP requires a diversity of skills and knowledge and an ability to combine innovation with policing to create intelligent action.

Crime is clever, and we need to be more innovative. To be one of the most adaptive, effective and advanced policing agencies in the world, the AFP is seeking motivated candidates to undertake the Federal Police Entry Level Program who will deploy to ACT Policing in a general duties role.

ACT Policing

ACT Policing is the AFP's community policing service in the ACT. We aim to keep the ACT safe and secure through community policing activities on behalf of the ACT Government.

As an ACT police officer, you can make a positive difference to the lives of the people in your community. When a crime is committed in the ACT, you are the first point of contact.

Few other jobs can match the diversity and excitement of community police work. Day to day, as an ACT police officer in general duties, you will patrol the Canberra community and respond to incidents, deal with crimes such as robbery, drug offences, family violence and traffic incidents, and proactively engage with the Canberra community.

Over time, you'll have the opportunity to develop additional skills and specialise in a range of roles across ACT Policing including:

  • community safety
  • family violence
  • major crime, such as drugs, organised crime and homicide
  • sexual assault
  • fraud
  • rural patrol
  • road policing
