Role Summary

 

The AFP Reserve aims to build and maintain an experienced workforce, drawing on the extensive operational and corporate expertise of our former members (policing, protective service officer and professional/unsworn) to enhance the capability and effectiveness of the AFP.

The AFP Reserve provides an opportunity for former members to re-engage with the AFP, and existing members seeking to transition to retirement (or resignation), to continue fulfilling their sense of public duty and commitment to the Australian community.

 

What is the role?

 

AFP Reserves are engaged on a casual basis and perform duties for short periods providing professional unsworn support delivering against key AFP priorities.

AFP Reserves perform various duties which are vital to our frontline operations.  These include roles across a range of portfolios in several AFP areas including  

  • ACT Policing
  • National AFP
  • Regional Commands

           - Central
           - Eastern
           - Northern
           - Southern
           - Western

 

What will you do?

 

Reserve members are given opportunities to provide support in multiple and diverse roles performing a range of duties including, but not limited to: 

  • Executive support
  • Human Resources
  • Police Station support
  • Investigation support
  • Training delivery, updates & development
  • Establishing and refining governance processes
  • Mentoring and training to members
  • Personal security vetting
  • Ceremonial and Protocol Officer duties
  • Assisting with planning designated special events

 

Please note: AFP Reserves when undertaking a placement as a Ceremonial and Protocol Officer (CAPO), will be sworn in to allow them to wear an AFP uniform only. Business areas within the AFP may also require additional qualifications for placements. 

 

Terms and Conditions including salary information

 

AFP Reserves are engaged as casual employees of the AFP. Terms and conditions are outlined in section 12, casual employment of the AFP Enterprise Agreement 2017-2020 (EA).

A Casual Employee will be paid the Base Salary Hourly Rate (based on the respective band level of the placement and is aligned to the work level standards) plus a casual loading 
of 20% for each hour worked. 

Please note. Casual loading is an additional payment for casual employees who don’t have access to most leave entitlements.

 

Essential Requirements

 

  • Meet the requirements of the work history assessment
  • Meet the employment suitability requirements
  • Be of good character    
  • Have had a minimum 3 years of previous employment within the AFP
  • A former member of the AFP, separated within the past 10 years
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one

 

Required Application Documentation

 

  • Vaccination certificate - AFP employees are required to have received a minimum of two COVID-19 vaccinations (or one dose if the Janssen vaccine was used). Satisfactory proof of vaccination status will be required at the time of application.

Employment Suitability

 

Should you successfully progress from the application stage all applicants must:

  • Complete an Employment Suitability Questionnaire (ESQ). This aids in the assessment of your character and your ability to comply with the AFP's professional standards both in an official and private capacity. Please review our AFP Character Standards to ensure that you meet our requirements before you submit your application. Applicants will not receive feedback if they are unsuccessful at this gateway.
  • Have your fingerprints assessed or taken if an offer of employment is made.
  • Undertake mandatory drug testing for illicit drugs. This sample could include; urine, saliva or hair.
  • Proof of a minimum of two COVID-19 vaccinations (or one dose if the Janssen vaccine was used
  • Satisfactorily undertake a security clearance to the level specified for the position. 

 

Secondary Work and Volunteering

 

If you have secondary work or volunteering outside of the AFP please review section 8.5 AFP Reserves of the AFP National Guideline on secondary work or volunteering. 

An application will be required and assessed in accordance with the above guideline at the time of joining the AFP Reserve Pool.
