What is the role?

 

The AFP is looking for experienced, enthusiastic and highly organised Business Support Officer to fill current and anticipated vacancies in the Operation Aegis Strategy & Coordination Team and Request for Information (RFI) Team in Canberra.  

As a Business Support Officer you will provide essential support and work under general direction from our Team Leaders. The role will require you to be on the forefront of day-to-day administrative support, reporting, governance, finance, research and analysis. You will be required to display initiative, think strategically and demonstrate sound judgement and decision making on a regular basis. Relationship management, workflow prioritisation, and value-added coordination are key elements of this role.

These roles are fast paced with rigid timelines and require management of the office environment and prioritising the workflow. To succeed in this role, you will have great people skills, demonstrate flexibility, resilience, initiative and discretion.

 

About Operation AEGIS

Operation AEGIS has been established to coordinate across Commonwealth, State and Territory law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and protection of the Australian community in response to the release of the individuals from immigration detention. These individuals were released due to a ruling made in the High Court that found indefinite immigration detention was unlawful. Your work will have a tangible impact on national security, national policy, crisis management, cross jurisdiction, and multi-agency relationships (such as ABF, DoHA, State and Territory law enforcement and corrections agencies).

What will you do?

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

Band 4 responsibilities

 

 

  • Providing support to the Operation AEGIS senior Management team on reporting, governance, HR and finance tasks;
  • Performing a range of office administrative tasks, including inbox management;
  • Supporting senior team members as required;
  • Performing secretariat duties including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and drafting outcomes;
  • Interrogating Intelligence systems for information gathering; 
  • Developing and maintaining an understanding of relevant subject matter and key policy, legislation constraints and strategy issue.


Band 5 responsibilities

 

 

  • Providing support to the Operation AEGIS senior Management team on reporting, governance, HR and finance tasks;
  • Performing a range of office administrative tasks, including inbox management;
  • Performing secretariat duties including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and drafting outcomes;
  • Liaising with stakeholders and coordinating and progressing input to requests;
  • Assisting in drafting briefings, talking points and presentations for the Executive;
  • Undertaking a range of operational support tasks, projects or research to support Operation AEGIS team; 
  • Interrogating Intelligence systems for information gathering; 
  • Developing and maintaining an understanding of relevant subject matter and key policy, legislation constraints and strategy issue.
  • Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures to establish clear, concise and effective operational guidelines across the Taskforce.

Essential Requirements (Band 4 & 5)

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Contemporary knowledge and experience relevant to the role and/or a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to be flexible and dynamic in response to changing priorities.
  • A high level of professionalism and attention to detail.

Desirable Requirements (Band 4 & 5)

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills and the ability to form productive working relationships as a member of a team.

  • When applying you will be asked to nominate your preferred band level, however final determination of the band level you are found suitable for is at the discretion of the panel.
  • This role is located in Canberra and applicants are expected to be based in the ACT region.
  • Please note there are no current vacancies at the Band 5 level and this process is only aimed at creating a merit pool for future ones.
