What is the role?

 

The Cloud Services Team within the Chief Information Officer (CIO) Command is responsible for the delivery and maintenance of a range of cloud capabilities that directly supports collaboration across the organisation, delivers cloud-based solutions to support operational and business outcomes. The team is a multi-disciplinary team focused on delivering business value and continuous improvement by leveraging innovative cloud-based solutions. There are currently opportunities to support VMware for specialist systems.

 

As a Team Member in the AFP you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

 

Roles and responsibilities of the Cloud Services team include:

 

  • Driving an Automation first approach, developing and documenting best practices and strategies for platform maintenance and application deployment in a hybrid cloud environment
  • Maintains and supports the AFP’s virtualisation platform built on VMware VCF.
  • Support Specialist Systems run on VMware.
  • Troubleshoot incidents, identify root cause, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures
  • Employ exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity
  • Collaborating across multiple teams within CIO and the business to evaluate and identify optimal cloud solutions.
  • Managing cloud environments in accordance with Information Security Manual (ISM) and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
  • Maintenance and enhancement of platform architecture and sustainment of Public PROTECTED Cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services

What will you do?

 

  • Maintain and Support AFP’s VMware environment.
  • Upgrade platform as required including onboarding of new workloads
  • Monitor the performance of cloud systems, capacity management and identifying optimisation opportunities.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues related to cloud infrastructure, promptly resolving any identified issues.
  • Configure and document cloud solutions through the use of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tool sets and practices
  • Support cloud adoption of applications as they are being transformed and/or modernised

 

Successful applicants will be required to develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the AFP business and the impact of roles and functions undertaken in relation to the organisation’s reputation to effectively manage operations

Essential Requirements

 

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 2 (Top Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Relevant formal qualifications from a recognised tertiary institution or demonstrated equivalent skills and experience.
  • Experience in implementation and or administration of VMware VCF technologies, including Aria Automation/Operations, vSphere & VSAN.
  • Understanding of automation frameworks and tools such as Ansible.
  • Understanding of governance frameworks and principles in a cloud environment

Desirable Requirements

 

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

 

  • VMware certifications
  • Experience in developing Aria Operations dashboards or other industry equivalents to provide observability of infrastructure and application services.
  • Linux foundational knowledge

Additional Information

 

  • Job opportunities will be available Australia wide, however some travel will be required to Canberra. Successful candidate will be able to work from Canberra or the closest AFP headquarters in the respective state/territory and will have reporting timelines to management located in Canberra.
