What is the role?

The Covert Analysis and Assurance (CAA) team sits within the Technology Operations & Chief Information Officer Command. The team supports AFP investigations by ensuring compliance with the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979, Surveillance Devices Act 2004, Crimes Act 1914 and other relevant legislation. The team is also responsible for record-keeping, reporting services, the facilitation of the Commonwealth Ombudsman’s oversight of the various legislative regimes as well as providing a dedicated monitoring service for telecommunication interceptions.

What will you do?

The role responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Consistently demonstrate sound customer service skills, including providing non-legal advice in relation to relevant legislation and relevant AFP policy and processes
  • Facilitating requests in support of AFP operations and investigations
  • Adhering by quality assurance process
  • Proactively work to build and maintain good working relationships with relevant stakeholders (both internal and external)
  • Being familiar with relevant legislation, such as the Telecommunications (Interception & Access) Act 1979, Surveillance Device Act 2004, Criminal Code Act 1995, Crimes Act 1914 and other relevant legislation
  • Contribute with innovative ideas to enhance processes in support of team objectives and productivity
  • Utilise multiple AFP and computer-based information systems to interrogate, input, collate and retrieve data for operational support and prepare reports
  • Undertake a range of operational support tasks including team administrative duties when requested
  • Assistance to the Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman as required
  • Research and self-learn outside of formal training
  • Ability to perform on-call on a rotating roster to provide afterhours support for operational requirements (Applicable to limited specific positions)

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Self-motivated learner with an ability to research and acquire knowledge relevant to the role.
