The AFP is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates wishing to be considered for the role of Coordinator Business Strategy and Governance in the Specialist Protective Command (SPC).

 

Specialist Protective Command (SPC) is a hybrid (Specialised/Operational) Command within the AFP and is responsible for establishing national strategy, governance and capabilities whilst also delivering operational outputs within the ACT. As an SPC Executive Level Leader, you work under the broad direction of the SPC Senior Executives. You are responsible for shaping SPC’s strategic direction through the professional services your team delivers consistent with the AFP values, the SPC Corporate Plan, AFP Core Leadership Continuum, and your Charter of Performance. You have an ability to quickly develop, or currently possess, an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the AFP business, and the impact of corporate functions and roles to effectively manage operations.


You are a motivated, skilled, and client-focused professional, who is forward thinking in driving excellence. Possessing high calibre relationship management skills, including the ability to provide strategic, insightful, persuasive and trusted advice to a diverse range of stakeholders.

As the Coordinator Business Strategy and Governance you lead by example, embodying the AFP's values and inclusive culture and are willing to adapt and learn, and apply an intelligent, problem-solving approach to your work. You apply a strategic and practical lens to leading SPC business support services (including national coordination, logistics, procurement and SPC workforce planning) whilst utilising sound business principles to effectively and efficiently manage resources to meet the needs of the Commands priorities. 

 

You will coordinate and provide Executive level leadership across ministerial correspondence, media requests, SPC strategic communications and the delivery of nationally consistent protective security standards, governance and practices. 


You are highly regarded for your contemporary leadership capabilities, effectively leading and managing a team of professional, unified and staff who stand together with the frontline. As an effective communicator and change management advocate you contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the AFP Code of Conduct, AFP Governance Instruments and other regulatory frameworks.

What will you do?

 

The Coordinator Business Strategy and Governance will work under the strategic direction of the senior executive and is responsible for the leadership and management of a number of teams to deliver outcomes.

 

Appointees require an ability to quickly develop, or currently possess, in-depth knowledge and understanding of the AFP business and the impact of roles and functions undertaken in relation to the organisation’s reputation to effectively manage operations. This work may include:

 

  • Planning, leading and managing the strategic, business and project activities of SPC.
  • Leading agile, multi-disciplined, high performing teams providing a range of strategic policy advice, outcomes and services to achieve SPC’s strategic corporate direction. 
  • Embracing acceptable risk/s inherent in creating new ways of doing business, driving innovation while demonstrating effective leadership in managing risk.
  • Assessing and evaluating policy and business improvement initiatives, identifying issues and implementing enhanced procedures and work practices.
  • Modelling professional, ethical and leadership behaviours to all employees, and in the capacity of representing the SPC.
  • Ensuring all financial and human resources within their team is effectively directed to achieve business area outcomes;
  • Contributing to the development of corporate business planning and strategies and the strategic direction of activities within the AFP;
  • Exercising high level of influence on areas of specialisation and demonstrate business management capabilities;
  • Contributing to the AFP strategies and initiatives for continuous improvement and the long term success of the AFP;
  • Providing high level conceptual and strategic advice and conduct briefings;
  • Building and sustaining internal and external professional networks and collaborative working relationships;
  • Using extensive knowledge and expertise to guide, mentor and develop team leaders and members to ensure the sustainability of skills and knowledge in the AFP;
  • Identifying, evaluating and supporting technological changes, policy and legislation within the relevant field that can be utilised to enhance the AFP's response capability;
  • Driving the provision of business area services and demonstrates political awareness and understanding; and
  • Maintaining currency in policy, legislation and subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education process.

Essential Requirements

 

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Demonstrated business and change management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholders engagement skills.
  • Extensive experience in providing strategic advise to Senior Executives. 
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Relevant qualification in Business Administration, Human Resources or other related fields would be highly regarded.
