What is the role?

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Microsoft Developer within the Specialist Capability Systems (SCS) Section, Technology Strategy & Data Branch, Technology Operations & Chief Information Officer Command (TOCIO). The TOCIO is a key enabling AFP Command that provides technological solutions to combat crime and support operational members through innovative solutions that impact upon the criminal environment. The Command provides end to end solutions, advice, cyber security and infrastructure that underpins AFP activities.

The Dynamics Developer will be part of a multi-disciplined team responsible for the delivery of outcomes, change and benefits through supporting and managing operational infrastructure and systems. They will contribute to the design, development, maintenance and ongoing enhancement of digital applications that support the agency’s objectives. The team will consist of Business Analysts, Developers, System Administrators and Test Analysts who are responsible for supporting, monitoring, maintaining and enhancing legacy and recently implemented hardware, platforms, applications, and solutions across multiple security domains. This team will support critical ICT solutions underpinning AFP operational capabilities in collecting intelligence and evidence for AFP investigations, both domestically and internationally and to identify leads for future investigations. Our ideal candidate will be a proactive relationship-builder who can operate with both business and technical stakeholders, is solution focused, committed and is motivated to lead a high performing team.

 

The Dynamics Developer will be required to contribute to delivering high-quality digital solutions that improve services, support users, and achieve organisation outcomes. You will apply your technical expertise to deliver reliable and efficient software solutions and play an active role in improving development practices and outcomes. The role will have a strong focus on stakeholder collaboration, communication and problem solving in alignment with the objectives of the team, and more broadly the AFP. The role will provide expertise to the team developing and implementing technical capabilities, and process improvements to underpinning services to deliver benefits.


Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agenda’s corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below. You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.

What will you do?

  • Be responsible for designing, configuring, customising, unit testing, and maintain high-quality Microsoft Dynamics on-premise software applications to meet requirements.
  • Analyse complex ICT business issues and requirements, applying expertise to identify and recommend solutions options.
  • Assist in migrations for Microsoft applications including from legacy applications and/or to cloud.
  • Review, prepare, contribute and maintain architecture and technical documentation including solution designs, as-built documentation and detailed designs.
  • Review and participate in providing feedback on requirements and business readiness artefacts in writing or verbally at workshops and in meetings.
  • Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, and upgrading existing Microsoft Dynamics applications.
  • Apply secure coding practices and contribute to risk management activities.
  • Support system integration and ensure interoperability across applications.
  • Monitoring software performance, identifying and fixing bugs, and implementing updates and enhancements.  
  • Work collaboratively with technical stakeholders to identify needs, reach agreement on the objectives and commit to achieving results.
  • Manage raised defects and clarifications with technical stakeholders.
  • Provide relevant reporting progress metrics on progress relating to deliverables/activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with team members, stakeholders and vendors to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Contribute to the improvement of ICT development standards, processes, procedures and tools.
  • Provide mentoring to members of the team.
  • Maintaining currency in information technology processes and technical knowledge through ongoing professional development.

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Microsoft Certified.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in Microsoft Dynamics on premise and cloud
  • Relevant qualifications in Software Development, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in on-premise to cloud migrations for Microsoft applications.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages like .net, Java, Python, C++, JavaScript, etc.  
  • Demonstrate knowledge of databases, APIs, and system integration.
  • A strong understanding and experience of technical development methodologies and frameworks such as Agile, Scrum and DevSecOps.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Stronger relationship building with relevant technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in Power Pages, Power Apps Portal, Power Automate
  • Experience in Microsoft SharePoint 
  • Experience in operational and sensitive systems.
