What is the role?
Enterprise Architects are trusted strategic partners within the AFP that builds holistic view of the organisation through identifying the changes in direction and the policing capabilities we need to acquire by understanding AFP’s strategy, processes and information assets. Solution Architects work alongside Enterprise Architects to implement strategic designs and capabilities into solution designs in order to realise strategic outcomes as well as project outcomes.
Working within the Technology Strategy and Data branch Enterprise Architecture Solutions Team, you will have an opportunity to collaborate with all AFP Commands to drive strategic and organisational change at the enterprise level. You will be part of a team that will help the AFP achieve its strategic objectives by providing professional strategic advice to the AFP Executive and Leadership through the creation and maintenance of relevant architectures, roadmaps and identification of solution options.
Through these roles, you will acquire in-depth knowledge and understanding of the AFP’s secure operating environment, business operating model and the impact of roles and functions undertaken in relation to the organisation’s reputation to effectively manage operations and corporate services. These roles will also direct and support designers and system implementers in the development of new solutions in the realisation of the AFP Technology Strategy 2025. Architects also take into account the overall Technology Strategy as it is being realised via activities across multiple Programs. The Enterprise and Solution Architecture practice maintains enterprise architectures that support and enable our people to deliver maximum impact to the criminal environment through reducing red tape, supporting the frontline, and enhancing partnerships in the delivery of AFP outcomes:

What will you do?
As a strategic technologist and architect of the AFP, you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support new business directions and innovative technologies. You will be developing reference architectures and strategies supporting business transformation and modelling the AFP business processes, organisational structures, information holdings and flows, ICT systems, and technical infrastructure.
Architects are required to acquire and maintain an in-depth knowledge of AFP business in addition to a good understanding of relevant technical domains to provide advice to the stakeholders in formulating the vision, strategic direction, adoption, and implementation of associated ICT capabilities. You will apply your skills and experience to progress and execute the key priorities of the branch, through architectures that support:
- Delivering Architecture and Design Services to the AFP;
- Driving and maintaining the AFP Technology Strategy;
- Supporting digital records management capability uplift;
- Supporting data sharing with fine grained Identity and access management;
- Enabling data pipelines and enterprise operational analytics;
- Maintaining Domain Architecture Plans;
- Enabling AI Model Frameworks;
- Supporting a data stewards program for information management;
- Development of enterprise level enrichment services;
- Enabling natural language processing for entity extraction;
- Assisting achieving data literacy uplift in AFP; and
- Enabling UI and UX enhancement to the business intelligence platform.
We are looking for experienced and motivated architects, who have knowledge and expertise in one or more of domains including business architecture, application architecture, information architecture, technology architecture and cyber security architecture.
Essential Requirements
- You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application
- A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one
- Formal tertiary qualifications in an information technology related field or extensive demonstrated technical equivalent skills and experience
Desirable Requirements
- ArchiMate Modelling Language certification or demonstrated skills and experience in producing ArchiMate models of business processes, organisational structures, and information flows
- Knowledge and understanding of common ICT and change management practices and methods, including Agile, PRINCE2, ITIL, MSP
- The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) certification or extensive demonstrated skills and experience in executing the Architecture Development Method (ADM) or equivalent architecture framework
- Strategic thinking and architecture leadership within a small integrated Enterprise and Solution Architecture team
- Experience in architecture governance and architecture risk management
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
For candidates applying for an Enterprise Architect (TS Level 3) role:
- Experience with Sparx Systems; and
- Experience in defining Business Architectures that are aligned to business capabilities and strategic priorities; or
- Experience in defining information domains and management capabilities across an enterprise to drive strategic change; or
- Experience in defining applications delivery and applications scoping to manage system of record boundaries and deliver pace-layered agility in strategic business transformation; or
- Experience in defining technology delivery and managing a portfolio of platforms and products well aligned to enable business agility and strategic business transformation; or
- Experience in defining cyber security capabilities aligned to the mission of the organisation and the requirements for managing Australian Government information securely.
For candidates applying for a Solution Architect (TS Level 2) role:
- Experience in helping a business area shape their intent and needs clearly, and negotiating incremental and agile delivery of capability uplift;
- Experience in designing a complete solution that covers the business use cases, the development and testing use cases and the operational administration use cases;
- Experience in co-design with all stakeholders and subject matter experts in the business and in the technology delivery organisations involved;
- Experience in engaging vendor designers and delivery stakeholders to work within a corporate environment with mandatory standards and security constraints; or
- Experience in adopting enterprise reference architectures into solutions and working with enterprise architects to develop new patterns and architectures as part of the new solutions.
Additional Information
