What is the role?

The AFP currently have a number of vacancies for Executive Officers across a range of business areas. The role of an Executive Officer predominantly focuses on delivering critical and high level support to the executive and across the business area.

 

Working as an Executive Officer will provide you the opporunity to get involved with business operations including implementation and development of business projects. You will play an important role aiding Executives in their decision-making and administration purposes, and proactively manage workflows and competing priorities. Executive Officers also source, complie and deliver briefings, internal and external communications, and engage in stakeholder consultations.

 

Our ideal candidate is someone who loves variation in their day to day work, is proactive and can manage competing priorities with ease. You will also need to be a strong communicator with an ability to develop and foster strong relationships across the AFP.

 

As a Team Member in the AFP you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

 

  • Research, plan, deliver and coordinate projects as determined by the Commander/Manager;
  • Proactively manage workflows, write reports and briefs, assist with resource management and contribute to policy development and review;
  • Liaise and consult with staff across the Command to achieve divisional priorities, including responding effectively to emerging issues;
  • Represent the interests of the Commander/Manager's office with key internal & external stakeholders and at various meetings;
  • Develop and maintain a network of relationships across the AFP as well as private and public sectors;
  • Maintain currency in project management methodology through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education process;
  • Apply a high level of discretion, judgement and initiative to all situations and decision making to produce appropriate advice;
  • Manage and develop a Band 3 or Band 4 Executive Assistant.

Requirements

Essential requirements

Band 6

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application;
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one;
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in providing Executive support in a corporate setting;
  • Demonstrated experience in writing report and executive briefs;
  • High level communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Exceptional stakeholders’ engagement skills and ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with them;
  • A high attention to details.

 

Desirable

  • Previous experience as Executive Officer will be highly regarded;
  • Demonstrated political awareness or interest in current government affairs;
  • Experience in Parliamentary and Ministerial Support services;
  • Demonstrated financial literacy or ability to understand public service budget management and reporting.

 

Band 7

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application;
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one;
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in an Executive Officer role;
  • Demonstrated experience in writing report and executive briefs;
  • High level communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Exceptional stakeholders’ engagement skills and ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with them;
  • Demonstrated political awareness or interest in current political affairs;
  • Demonstrated financial literacy or ability to understand public service budget management and reporting;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and autonomously deliver program/project outcomes;
  • A high attention to details.

Additional Information

 

  • When applying you will be asked to nominate your preferred band level, however final determination of the band level you are found suitable for is at the discretion of the panel.
  • This role is located in Canberra, ACT and Sydney, NSW and applicants are expected to be based in Canberra or Sydney.
