The M365 Collaboration Team, part of the Chief Information Officer Command, leads and manages the implementation, optimisation, and governance of Microsoft 365 tools — including Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Viva — to support enterprise-wide communication, productivity, and knowledge sharing. We are seeking a highly motivated and organised individual who can work effectively under limited direction to deliver collaboration solutions that enhance operational efficiency, reduce friction, and foster a connected digital workplace.

 

In this role, you will focus on leading the adoption and continuous improvement of M365 services, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, and managing vendor relationships and licensing to maximise value and compliance.

 

You will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

 

As a Systems Administrator / Team Leader of AFP's M365 Collaboration Team, you will:

 

  • Lead a group of diverse technical specialists (Team Leader only);
  • Implement, maintain, and administer Microsoft 365 collaborative tooling platforms, focusing on Teams and SharePoint;
  • Develop, test, and implement policies and procedures to mature M365 ecosystem;
  • Recognise and suggest opportunities to advance/mature existing implementation;
  • Drive overall M365 platform maturity and innovation;
  • Document processes, procedures, and techniques for L1/L2 Service Desk triage;
  • Collaborate, cross-train, and manage relationship with L1/L2 Service Desk team on issue resolution for all supported M365 platforms;
  • Develop and maintain Knowledge Base articles for L1/L2 Service Desk reference;
  • Develop and maintain training articles for end users; and
  • Maintain frequent communication with peers, leadership, and adjacent IT teams to maintain awareness of emergent issues and changing process/standards.

Essential Requirements

 

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application;
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team. (Team Leader role only);
  • Minimum 3 years of M365 Administration and SharePoint experience required;
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud and user migration, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams and M365 Architecture;
  • Hands-on scripting experience (PowerShell, Azure CLI, bash);
  • Technical infrastructure experience;
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Active Directory;
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining technical documentation, manuals and policies; and
  • Proven ability to liaise with stakeholders and attend client meetings and technical forums.

Desirable Requirements

 

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

 

  • Technical Leadership Experience in leading and managing M365 Teams. (Team Leader role only)
  • Microsoft 365 Enterprise Admin certification (MS-110, MS-101) or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 years or more of advanced Office 365 experience is preferred.

  • This position has been advertised in all major capital cities. Although the position is generally based in Canberra, opportunities to work remotely from another AFP office in Australia will be considered.
