AFP BAND & SALARY - Band 01, $33.58 - $37.30 per hour (which is inclusive of a 25% casual loading), plus 15.4% superannuation

What is the role?

Applications are sought from law students who are at least in their first year of study wishing to be considered for the role of Paralegal (Casual) – AFP Legal.

 

AFP Legal has casual work opportunities for paralegals in Canberra. You would gain experience working in a government legal practice that manages complex and sensitive law enforcement, national security and civil litigation matters.

 

Available work hours will vary, subject to business needs. 

 

As a Team Member in the AFP you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

 

The duties of the position will include (but not limited to):

 

  • perform general administrative and file maintenance, including scanning, printing and filing, file opening and closing and data entry and delivering documents.
  • provide assistance with reviewing, preparing and drafting court documents.
  • undertake simple legal research tasks, information retrieval and project work.
  • undertaking initial searches for subpoenas and Freedom of Information requests.
  • maintaining legal advice registers.

Essential Requirements

 

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Excellent team orientation and a positive attitude
  • Effective time management skills to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • The professional maturity to work in a high pressure and high security environment.
