What is the Role?

Specialist Protective Command (SPC) is a hybrid (Specialised/Operational) Command within the AFP and is responsible for safeguarding Australians and Australian interests through the delivery and coordination of protective security and aviation policing.
The Business Strategy and Governance Section (BSGS) is customer-focused, providing an embedded strategic and corporate enabling service for SPC. BSGS provide a single-entry point for enquiries and information on SPC activities including governance, national strategy, workforce management and planning, procurement and logistics support across SPC.
The National Protection Strategy Team (NPST) support SPC by working with the AFP Regional Commands and the broader SPC to provide nationally consistent standards and practice across SPC operations. We coordinate SPC and stakeholder efforts to deliver against National Security priorities as well as provide oversight and maintenance of the protective security framework, implement SPC and Protection review outcomes.
What will you do?
As the Project Officer, you will:
- assist with the development, delivery and implementation of protective security recommendations and projects.
- provide high quality advice, progress reports and briefings relating to team objectives and project activities.
- contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of protective security frameworks which ensure national consistency and support risk-informed decision making.
- contribute to projects and research activities to support Command objectives.
- provide support for SPC assurance activities including gap analysis', validation, moderation, evaluation and continuous improvement of existing protective security frameworks and guidance material.
- provide oversight and maintenance of the protective security framework to ensure content remains contemporary.
- organise meetings and perform secretariat functions when required.
- liaise with clients, including establishing collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Requirements
As the Project Officer, you will support projects and their respective stakeholders across a range of levels and disciplines. You will demonstrate your expertise in stakeholder engagement, management and negotiation.
You will work in a fast-paced environment and will have a proactive and pragmatic attitude, high levels of organisational skills, self-drive and initiative. You will be able to identify risks and work effectively under pressure in a changing environment, to deliver high-quality advice and outcomes.
Additional requirements include:
- You must be an Australian Citizen.
- A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Contemporary knowledge and experience relevant to the role.
- Effective high quality written, oral and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in dynamic environment.
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
- Certificate IV in Project Management (or equivalent) or above is highly desirable
- An understanding of protective security principles and Australian government security policies would be advantageous.
