What is the role?

  

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and dynamic individual to join the AFP in a key strategic role responsible for the development and delivery of modern facilities to meet the needs of our advanced forensic science capabilities. The Project Officer, Forensics Infrastructure and Facilities is a new position in a team of experienced Infrastructure, Facilities and Laboratory Management staff within the AFP's Forensics Command. The Project Officer will work collaboratively with members of this team as well as AFP Commercial and Property teams to maintain and uplift Forensics facilities located around Australia. The successful candidate will also work closely with AFP Infrastructure Project teams to contribute to the design and delivery of new work environments that meet the needs of our exceptional Forensic Scientists. The Project Officer will take carriage of project procurement and administrative tasks and prepare well-informed project reports for the AFP Executive and key stakeholders.

 

This position requires a proactive and pragmatic attitude and high levels of organisational skills, self-drive and initiative. The candidate will be able to identify risks and work effectively under pressure in a changing environment, to assist in the delivery of advice and outcomes. The successful candidate will need to develop relationships and networks quickly and be able to sustain a synergistic environment to achieve optimal outcomes.

 

As a Team Member in the AFP you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below. This is a Canberra or Sydney based role but travel to inspect Forensics Facilities and Infrastructure projects in other regions is expected. 

What will you do?

 

As a Project Officer - Forensics Infrastructure & Facilities, you will:

 

  • Provide the Senior Leadership Team and AFP Executive with high quality advice and provide progress reports/briefings on capital works projects.
  • Contribute to the development, delivery and implementation of capital works projects including managing minor capital project activities.
  • Engage with key stakeholders and form project specific relationships to support the delivery of project outcomes in a successful and collaborative environment.
  • With guidance and support, manage project procurement and contract management activities, and participate in the negotiation of contracts and agreements, relating to the capital works projects.
  • Contribute to reporting and contractual administrative tasks.
  • Pursue, develop and nurture internal and external professional networks appropriate to the Band level to support the efficient and effective management of the AFP’s capital works projects.
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with the reporting and other regulatory requirements of Government.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of procedural and process level accommodation and project artefacts, in order to achieve efficient and optimal use of AFP premises and resources.

Essential Requirements

 

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and dynamic in response to changing priorities.
  • Ability to cultivate productive and effective working relationships.
  • Experience in project support or financial or contract administration.

Desirable Requirements

 

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

 

  • Certificate IV in Government Procurement and Contracting is preferred
  • Project Management qualifications or experience in infrastructure projects is preferred

  • The location of the Project Officer position is restricted to Canberra, ACT or Sydney, NSW.
  • This position is assigned to the Support Working Pattern in accordance with the AFP Enterprise Agreement.
