What is the role?
An exciting opportunity is available for nursing professionals to use their occupational medicine or travel medicine knowledge and skills to support the Australian Federal Police front line operational business areas.
Registered Nurses with experience in Occupational and/or Travel Medicine are encouraged to apply for this role.
Registered Nurses in the AFP Health Recruitment and Health Travel teams provide operational support to many areas of AFP in support of its mission. The Health Recruitment Nurses use their knowledge and skill to assist in risk mitigation of entry level recruitment medical gateways. The Travel Nurses provide advice to members on all aspects of gateways for short term travel and long-term deployment.
As a Team Member in the AFP you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?
You will work within your scope of practice to;
- Provide high-level advice, education and information on medical gateways for external sworn recruit candidates and/or travelling members,
- Coordinate clinical review of health assessments and contribute to complex clinical decision making in the determination of suitability for recruitment of police applicants and/or travel/deployment of members,
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team in the management of complex cases,
- Liaise with external contractors, candidates, members, business areas and other health care professionals,
- Contribute to clinical governance development and review.
Essential Requirements
- You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
- Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Current Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) General Registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1)
- Maintenance of currency in subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities as per AHPRA requirements
- Minimum five years practice as a Registered Nurse
- Minimum three years contemporary experience and knowledge in one or more of the following fields:
- Travel Health
- Occupational Health where travel has been a component
- Occupational Health
- Recruitment medical assessments
- You must hold a Nurse Immuniser qualification recognised by the National Immunisation Education Framework for Health Professionals
- Demonstrated high level emotional intelligence
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and deliver against business outcomes
- Availability to undertake domestic travel (if required)
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams
Desirable Requirements
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
- Post graduate certification in one of fields listed above
- Previous experience in assessment of occupation related medicals
- Previous experience in an area of international health or tropical health
Additional Information
- Domestic travel may be required.
- These roles are based in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
