We are seeking experienced Senior Project Officers wishing to be considered for vacancies within the Integrated Portfolio Office (IPO), Strategy and Performance Office (SPO) of the AFP.

 

The IPO manage the AFP’s Program & Project Management Framework (PMF) which sets out standards expected in the effective management of programs and projects predominately funded by the AFP Investment Plan. We provide reporting, advice, assurance, and compliance services to ensure the standards and principles of the PMF are applied in a pragmatic and consistent manner across the AFP.

 

The IPO provides secretariat and capability forward planning services to the AFP’s Capability Steering Committees to support strategic planning, prioritisation, investment and oversight of capabilities that are critical to achieving operational outcomes and delivering maximum impact to the criminal environment. We play a critical role in partnering with internal and external entities to support organisational priorities, amass strategic insights, drive innovation, and maintain project management standards.

 

As a Senior Project Officer, you will be a part of a cohesive team supporting the effective planning, investment and delivery of the AFP’s current and future capabilities. Our ideal candidate is a resilient, organised critical thinker and problem solver, who is adaptable to changing environments and can manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. You will be a strong communicator who takes a collaborative approach to teamwork, contributes to a positive workplace culture and builds strong relationships with stakeholders.

 

You will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

As a Senior Project Officer within the IPO, your key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Conducting investigative research and analysis on program and project delivery to inform executive decision making through the preparation of clear and concise reports, briefs and other project documentation.
  • Working collaboratively with AFP Finance and other stakeholders to effectively manage AFP Investment Plan initiatives, ensuring alignment to the PMF and other relevant governance.
  • Ongoing review and maintenance of IPO related governance, templates, user guides, and training materials, including producing internal enterprise-wide communications.
  • Conducting targeted assurance activities on programs and projects including, providing high quality recommendations and input for reporting on assurance outcomes.
  • Facilitating two-way stakeholder engagements to support the development of multi-year capability plans to improve strategic decision making on investing in the right capabilities to meet the changing nature of the AFP’s operating environment.
  • Supporting secretariat services to Capability Steering Committees, including minute taking and recording of all key decisions and actions.
  • Developing team members and fulfilling a guiding, mentoring and advisory role.
  • Maintaining currency in project management tools and methodologies through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities.
  • Applying a high level of discretion, judgement and initiative to all situations and decision making to achieve results and drive continuous improvement.

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
  • Experience in writing executive briefs, reports and presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • This role is based and to be performed in Canberra (ACT).
