What is the role?

 

ACT Policing is seeking applications from suitably qualified Canberra based employees wishing to be considered for the role of Senior Team Leader, Legislation and Governance, Band 8.

 

As a Senior Team Leader in the AFP you play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

 

The Legislation and Governance (L&G) Team provides high-level executive support to ACT Policing through coordinating and executing various functions that supports its accountability to the ACT Government, and as an outcome of the AFP. The L&G team is staffed by a mixture of sworn and unsworn members, which provides a balance of corporate and operational policing knowledge and skills. The Senior Team Leader, L&G manages and guides the functions of L&G in support of the Chief Police Officer’s obligation to meet ACT Policing’s accountability to the ACT Government and Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, and as part of Outcome 2 for the AFP.

 

The principal role of the Senior Team Leader, Legislation and Governance is to:

 

  • Manage the daily operations of L&G including the Governance Support and Compliance, Legislation and Policy National Forums and Budget Policy, and Performance Statistics teams.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to L&G staff.
  • Facilitate and foster productive relationships with ACT Government Directorates.
  • Consult and liaise with all relevant internal and external stakeholders on issues of significance to ACT Policing.
  • Provide oral and written advice that is timely, comprehensive and drives business outcomes.
  • Coordinate and prepare high-quality briefs for ACT Policing Executive and ACT Government Directorates.
  • Represent ACT Policing on government working groups and committees.

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one

Desirable Requirements

 

The ACT Policing Senior Team Leader, Legislation and Governance requires extensive experience in Legislation and Policy as well as a thorough understanding of Government practices and processes, and the ACT Policing environment.

 

Successful applicants will be highly regarded for their:

 

  • Previous extensive experience in legislation and policy and/or ministerial
  • Law degree
  • Leadership attributes
  • Aptitude for strategic and lateral thinking
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills and fostering productive working relationships
  • Understanding of ACT Government Legislative Assembly process and a whole-of-government situation awareness.
