What is the role?
Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for a full-time position within the AFP as Senior Team Leader, Logistics Command.
Logistics Command delivers a range of corporate and operational support functions to the broader organisation including:
- Uniform Support - the forward-facing customer service cell that connects AFP business areas to their uniform requirements to ensure the organisation meets strategic and operational objectives and mitigates enterprise risk.
- Supply Chain Management - responsible for the lifecycle management of controlled items such as ballistic and spike rated vests, batons and handcuffs. The team supports bulk domestic and international freight movement on behalf of the broader AFP, supply of care packages for deployed members across the pacific & rest of the world as well as receipt, asset & distribution of ICT equipment, and logistics support to AFP operations and projects as required.
- Fleet - administering the Whole of Australian Government Fleet Services contract on behalf of the AFP and provide management of over 1,300 vehicles, inclusive of testing and evaluation of new vehicle platforms.
- Strategy Monitoring & Evaluation - providing support at a high level to establish, secure and execute Logistic Command operational requirements. The team specialises in business research, analytic services, change and project management.
As a Leader in the AFP you play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?
This role provides key leadership and strategic planning in support of the broader Logistics Command portfolio, reporting to the Coordinator, Logistics Command. This role requires a complement of technical knowledge and experience in data analytics, governance and control, contract performance management, stakeholder engagement and relationship management, as well as strong people management and leadership skills.
This work may include, but is not limited to:
- Provide leadership and strategic direction in the delivery of outcomes for the AFP
- Lead, mentor and develop, building capability and capacity within the respective teams and utilise effective people management strategies and skills in the day-to-day management of staff.
- Managing external supplier arrangements to ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are met to the required standard, on time and within budget
- Establishing and maintaining effective high-level liaison with both internal and external stakeholders and partners
- Providing executive level verbal and written advice to management, stakeholders and partners
- Chairing or participating in Working Groups, Boards and Committees as required, providing subject matter expertise and leadership to help inform and guide strategic decision making
- Contributing to the development and implementation of corporate policies, development of business processes and systems frameworks which enhance the delivery of AFP operational outcomes
- Supporting and guiding decision making through the provision of strategic support and future strategies advice and assist in the creation, updating and implementation of AFP Governance instruments
- Monitoring Logistics Command budgets and providing forecasting and projections
- Actively manage and promote a healthy working environment. This includes embracing diversity, inclusion and respect
- Offer guidance and innovative solutions to support Logistics Command deliverables and continuous improvement initiatives

Essential Requirements
- You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
- A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one
- Extensive experience in leadership roles
- Demonstrated contract management experience
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable Requirements
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
- Demonstrated experience in delivering applicable corporate services
- Knowledge of government and industry strategic initiatives
- Demonstrated application of the AFP Risk Management and Governance Frameworks
Additional Information
- This role is located in Canberra and requires a physical office-based presence, applicants not located in Canberra must relocate at own expense if successful for the role
- This role is an AFP Band 8 level
