What is the role?
Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Senior Team Member, International Travel Team.
The International Travel Team sits within Business Services in the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Command and plays a critical role in supporting AFP operational outcomes. The team delivers specialist international travel services that enable AFP appointees to perform their duties effectively and safely, both domestically and overseas.
The experience you bring to this role will benefit the organisation by:
- Delivering high‑quality international travel services that support frontline and operational capability
- Identifying and implementing improvements to travel processes and systems to enhance efficiency, compliance and decision‑making
- Providing guidance, training and expert support to AFP appointees and stakeholders to strengthen service delivery and partnerships
In this role, you will manage the day‑to‑day workload of a high‑performing team delivering international travel services to AFP appointees and visitors. You will ensure services are delivered in accordance with Whole of Australian Government (WoAG) travel arrangements and AFP guidelines, with a strong focus on efficiency, cost‑effectiveness and customer service.
The Senior Team Member will contribute to business outcomes by providing operational oversight, supporting team capability, and ensuring compliance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct, and AFP Governance Instruments. This role suits an organised and adaptable professional with strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
What will you do?
Daily duties performed in the Senior Team Member role include:
- Leading and mentoring the International Travel Team to ensure AFP appointees receive timely and accurate assistance with international travel arrangements
- Providing guidance and support to AFP appointees on the application and issuing of official passports and visas for international travel
- Undertaking project and research activities to support AFP business outcomes, as directed by the Team Leader
- Contributing to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of corporate policies, processes and systems that enhance AFP operational outcomes
- Maintaining currency with all relevant travel and corporate card governance, including Whole of Australian Government Travel Policies, AFP National Guidelines and associated AFP policy documents
Essential Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of global distribution systems, including Galileo and/or Amadeus
- Experience in providing coordinated corporate travel services
- Experience in government travel management
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholder groups
- Knowledge and understanding of the governance framework as it applies to team objectives
- Demonstrated technical expertise in the Microsoft Office Suite
- Proven ability to work effectively in a small team environment and support the development of other team members
- Commitment to a diverse, inclusive and safe workplace
- A valid driver’s licence
- Australian citizenship
- NV1 security clearance, or the ability to obtain one
Desirable Requirements
- Five years’ experience in international travel management and/or corporate travel management; and
- Knowledge and experience working with CTM as part of the WoAG agreement.

- This role is an AFP Band 5 level role
- This position has been advertised in multiple locations however, the role is located in Canberra, ACT. Successful applicants must be willing to relocate to Canberra.
