*This role attracts a composite allowance in recognition of expanded working hours, normal patterns of attendance and shift patterns (such as afternoon and weekend shifts and designated public holidays) that are required under the Operations working pattern.

What is the role?

AFP Western Command Intelligence is seeking individuals who are self-directed and have the flexibility and resilience to thrive in a dynamic and at times high tempo working environment. If you are passionate about intelligence analysis and want to make a difference to Australia’s national security and criminal environment, we want your application. This role is based in Western Command, located in our Perth Headquarters, with regular travel to our Geraldton and Exmouth Protection locations. Successful applicants will be required to be located in Perth. 


Intelligence is integral to AFP criminal investigations in Australia and abroad. Intelligence Officers work within teams in partnership with investigators to achieve outcomes against Australian and international criminal threats. Using critical thinking and analytical skills, Intelligence Officers mitigate these threats and contribute to the consolidated picture of transnational organised crime and national security threats, identifying priorities and inform decision making. 


As the Intelligence Officer, you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position outlined below.

What will you do?

 

 

Proactively plan, collect, collate and analyse information to produce and disseminate intelligence.

 

  • Work collaboratively within the immediate team environment, as well as with other AFP members and partner agencies.
  • Collect, triage and assess tactical information and value add during police operations.
  • Provide written and oral intelligence briefings.
  • Record information and intelligence appropriately.
  • Identify and interpret information and data obtained in an ethical manner, which is then used to inform assessments and reach conclusions to meet a specified user requirement.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of the intelligence environment and relevant Commonwealth legislation. 
  • Understand the role and responsibilities relating to a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF).

 

The successful candidate will:

 

  • Be part of the Western Command Intelligence team of professionals and provide intelligence support Protection teams.
  • Apply contemporary analytical tools and techniques to produce actionable intelligence, which influences decision making at all levels.
  • Demonstrate they can perform in a cooperative and collaborative environment, one that is responsive and flexible in meeting team objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders to achieve intelligence and operational outcomes. 

Essential Requirements

•    You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
•    Should have or the ability to obtain a Positive Vetting (PV) / Top Secret-Privileged Access (TS-PA) security clearance.
•    Intelligence qualifications and / or significant intelligence experience in a law enforcement or similar environment.
•    Ability to conduct regular travel to AFP Geraldton and Exmouth Protection locations. 
•    Ability to work flexible hours and undertake on-call duties.

•    Understand the roles and responsibilities relating to a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF).
•    Experience in classified information management.
